Jamie Salas grew up dancing in San Antonio, TX where she developed an immediate
love for performance. After several years of recitals, competitions and Nutcrackers,
Jamie decided to further her tap studies by becoming a dancer with Barbara Phillips’
youth tap ensemble Rhythm and Percussion in Motion until high school graduation.
While her exposure to the tap world was short lived, her infatuation with tap
remained while intensely studying other all other forms of dance at University of
Nevada-Las Vegas, where she received her BFA in performance and choreography.
After graduating and immersing herself into the contemporary dance world,
she became an apprentice with Las Vegas Contemporary Dance Theater. Shortly
thereafter, she decided to move to Chicago to further her dance training at Giordano
Dance School on scholarship, where Mark Yonally became her tap teacher. Three
years since, Jamie has danced with Inaside Chicago Dance, Esoteric Dance Project,
and performed in and choreographed multiple freelance works. It wasn’t until this
year that she decided to revisit her love for rhythm tap. Jamie is truly honored and
excited to get the opportunity to learn from so many talented people and perform as
an apprentice with CTT!
