For Intermediate & Advanced Tap Students! (ages 10-18)
Chicago Tap Theatre is excited to its newly-expanded second annual Winter Tap Intensive for students from age 10 – 18! Taught by Artistic Director, Mark Yonally and Rehearsal Director Kirsten Uttich, this is an opportunity for students to improve their tap technique, play rhythm, movement and music-based games and learn a dance that will be performed in CTT’s annual Holiday Show, Tidings of Tap!
Each day will feature a three hour class structured to maximize the amount of new tap dance knowledge they can learn. The technique will be centered around improving speed, cleanliness of sounds and ability to do tricks, all based on the loose-ankle work Chicago Tap Theatre employs (and based on the work of Yonally’s technique mentor, Sam Weber). The next two hours will be devoted to learning choreography that students will be invited to perform at Tidings of Tap! at the 900-seat North Shore Center for the Performing Arts in Skokie, IL. Entering its 13th year, Tidings of Tap! is a warm and wondrous journey through the holidays that has garnered critical acclaim and commercial success. The end of each days’ classes will be devoted to tap and rhythm games and a little bit of tap history.
