CTT Minus Tap Shoes

It's true. Among the myriad other experiments we have going on right now, this week CTT also had company class without tap shoes. Not only was it the quietest we've probably ever been, but it was the first time we've all danced together in a capacity other than tap dancing. We have the great pleasure to announce that reknowned choregrapher Eddy Ocampo will be joining forces with Mark to create a piece for our new show Tap Out Loud. What does this mean? We're not sure but we'll let you know.

In the meantime, this collaboration has given us the opportunity to dust off some technique many of us haven't used in a while. Most everyone in CTT grew up taking all forms of dance and several of us have dance degrees and even danced for jazz and modern companies before joining CTT. It's something we are very proud of and this diverse movement background has proven time and again to contribute to making our pieces rich and interesting not only to hear but to watch. That said, most of us never see one another dance outside of tap dancing. It was such a treat to see everyone step into Eddy's movement (which is of course absolutely lovely) and such a great reminder of the depth of our dancing abilities. Equally great was seeing Mark watch many of us move in that way for the first time - like a whole new company! We also had a quick visit from Inaside Artistic Director Richard Smith who had to ask, "Who is this group of dancers?" So fun.

Needless to say, the experience was a lot of fun....and our bodies are feeling it today haha! The piece will start to take shape in the coming weeks and I for one can't wait to see what Eddy comes up with. In the meantime however, we'll be getting our butts kicked by Kyle Terry this weekend when he comes in to set a piece on us called (for the moment at least) Thug Life. This is really starting to get interesting. ♥ CTT
