Marketing Internship

Chicago Tap Theatre is a vibrant young dance company that produces three exciting and innovative shows a year, in addition to performing at other venues in Chicago and elsewhere (including France!). The company is currently looking for an energetic, highly-motivated marketing intern to help increase the company’s exposure in the media and with local cultural organizations as we take the company to the next level. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to gain experience in non-profit and arts administration and marketing. You will work closely with the Artistic Director, the Business Manager and the board of directors.

See www.chicagotaptheatre.com for more information about the company, including the upcoming multicultural holiday show, Tidings of Tap, which runs December 15-17.

The tasks will include:
• Marketing and promotion
• Helping in the creative process on special administrative projects; graphic design and writing skills are a plus
• Audience and sponsorship development
• Researching and archiving marketing data
• Event management relating to shows produced by Chicago Tap Theatre

We’re looking for an intern who:
• Is a self-starter and able to work without detailed supervision
• Is conscientious and good with details
• Possesses initiative and strong self-management skills
• Has excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills
• Has strong web and computer skills

Please note:
Although the internship at Chicago Tap Theatre provides a wealth of experience (and the opportunity to work with some great people, if we do say so ourselves!), it is unpaid. Whenever possible we will work with our intern to meet requirements to gain college credit for internships. Chicago Tap Theatre is not able to supply housing.

The internship focuses on marketing tasks and projects; we do not offer dance or choreography internships. We ask our intern to commit to a minimum of 10 hours a week. Much of the work may be completed at home.

The position begins in early January. Length of internship is flexible. If you are interested, please send (1) a cover letter indicating why you think you are right for this internship and (2) a resume describing your relevant work or volunteer experience to Mark Yonally, Artistic Director, at jazztapdancer@hotmail.com, or call (773) 655-1175.

Dear Chicago Tap Theater:

I am currently a Fashion Marketing student from The Illinois Institute of Art Chicago, and was interested in an internship that was on the internet from my career services director. With my 4 months in dance and experience in event planning I can be as real asset to the Chicago Tap Theater.

I am currently working at the Avenue, a plus size clothing store, where I just recently became a manager, I was promoted not just for my sales but also for my skill to plan events such as fashion shows to help promote the clothing. My fashion show consisted of 7 models and three different looks; casual, dressy, and dressy casual. The turnout was a huge a success and The Avenue had a lot of sales that day. I also had 4 months in dance at Dance Dimensions. I was in intermediate hip hop dancing with a mixture of reggae dancing as well. There was a dance show which involved all the levels of dancers from all ages and cultures. From then on I still dance but I choreograph other children from 6-15, and as far as my fashion show I am planning another one this spring for The Avenue spring collection.

Please review my resume, so I can get the opportunity to have a personal interview with you to discuss my experiences and how they can be a great asset to The Chicago Tap Theater. If there are further questions or you just want to reach me my number is 1-(312)834-2364 and my email is Msbirdy.desire09@yahoo.com .

Thank you for your time.

Desiree Ellis
