As reflected by our dusty blog, CTT has been on a hiatus for a little while but we're back and have been hard at work in the studio again for about a month and are already gearing up for a jam-packed season. This blog entry is inspired by the weekly recap of our favorite show....

As many of you may already know, we hit the road to Dowagiac, MI this weekend to perform as part of the Dogwood Arts Festival. We had such a lovely time and met such great people there.

CTT goes big with "Queen"

It been a little while since we've gotten down to some serious rock and roll around here. Our show Changes (a science fiction tap opera to the music of David Bowie...in case you didn't know) was really the last time we've used good old rock and roll music. The trouble is, with Bowie being pretty much the ultimate in epic-ly fun and flamboyant rock and roll, where do you go from there? The obvious answer of course is Queen. We are proud to say that this time, we're going with the obvious answer.

CTT Minus Tap Shoes

It's true. Among the myriad other experiments we have going on right now, this week CTT also had company class without tap shoes. Not only was it the quietest we've probably ever been, but it was the first time we've all danced together in a capacity other than tap dancing. We have the great pleasure to announce that reknowned choregrapher Eddy Ocampo will be joining forces with Mark to create a piece for our new show Tap Out Loud. What does this mean? We're not sure but we'll let you know.

Every time we part with a story show, we experience a certain heartache. Not only are we parting with the dancing, the music, and the energy of performance but we have to put away some special people we've gotten to know so well - our characters. It's been especially hard to put away the cast of characters from LoveTaps and more than ever, there is a sense they might not be gone for good.

Reinventing the wheel: CTT's story show process

As we prepare to open Love Taps next week, we near the end of our story show making process for this season. Every year, this process while familiar becomes a bit like reinventing the wheel as we push ourselves to explore new genres and choose which conventions to play up and which to pare down. Because we are (from our research) the only tap company in America and maybe even the world creating full length story shows, we have the luxury of defining what the tap opera looks like but also the drawback of not having many sources from which to draw inspiration or how-to's.
