AUDITION FOR CHICAGO TAP THEATRE’S 21st SEASON!

Chicago Tap Theatre is seeking tap dancers of all backgrounds, ethnicities, body types, sexual orientations, and genders for the 2023-2024 season. Company Dancer, Touring Apprentice & Apprentice positions currently available. CTT provides company dancers with an hourly rehearsal pay rate plus performance pay and apprentice positions with a monthly rehearsal stipend plus performance pay.  All positions receive a monthly health stipend.

CTT celebrates each dancers’ individuality while challenging them to grow in their technique and artistic practice. CTT dancers have a genuine respect and appreciation for each other and everyone we work with to create our productions featuring live music and tap dance excellence while honoring the history of the art form.

Chicago Tap Theatre’s audition process includes a virtual pre-audition (optional) and an in-person audition located in Chicago, IL.

 

IN-PERSON AUDITION

Sunday, September 10th at Visceral Dance Center
3121 N Rockwell St, Chicago, IL 60618

Registration: 11:30 AM
Audition: 12:00-3:30 PM

Bring tap shoes, a headshot, & resume. Masks optional.
No preparation required.

VIRTUAL PRE-AUDITION (optional)

Dancers may send in a video of choreography and improvisation for direct feedback from Artistic Director, Mark Yonally, before making travel arrangements. Videos must be a minimum of 3 minutes long and include both choreography and improvisation. Video submissions are due August 21st. Feedback on all submissions will be provided by August 28th.

COMPANY DANCER

A position as a company dancer offers the opportunity for training, performing (in home season & on tour), and artistic growth as a tap dancer in a professional environment.

GENERAL

  • $17/hour rehearsal fee plus performance pay and health stipend
  • Contract Dates
    • October 18, 2023 – June 2024
  • Rehearsal Commitment
    • Mondays, 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM
    • Wednesdays, 2:00 – 7:00 PM
    • Thursdays, 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM

JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Learn rep and Rehearse weekly
  • Perform in home season and on tour
  • Work with Guest Artists
  • Potentially Choreograph
  • Substitute teach when necessary
  • Take on additional roles when necessary (i.e. Costumes)
  • Re-stage rep when applicable/necessary 
  • Provide mentorship/support/guidance to Touring Apprentices and Apprentices
  • First call for additional performance opportunities

Requirements
 – Must be 18 years or older at the time of audition
– Must be available for all rehearsal times
– Proficient in tap dance technique and improvisation
– Able to relocate to Chicago, if currently located elsewhere

TOURING APPRENTICE

A touring apprenticeship with Chicago Tap Theatre offers the opportunity for training, performing (in home season and on tour), and artistic growth as a tap dancer in a professional environment.

$250 monthly stipend plus performance pay and health stipend.

Mondays, 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM
Wednesdays, 2:00 – 7:00 PM
Thursdays, 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM
